St. Valentine's Day!

St. Valentine's Day is an occasion to show others that you care by giving gifts from the heart.

Many commercially-available gift ideas can cost a decent amount of money, putting people off from being able to buy the gifts they want for this special occasion.

Fortunately, there are a wide variety of ways to save money on meaningful St. Valentine’s Day gifts.

Read more: How to Create a Life Plan and Avoid Allowing Luck to Rule Your Life!

1. Something to do. Most things that you and your loved one can do on St. Valentine's Day can be relatively inexpensive.  Rather than taking your significant other out for a night on the town, consider a quiet homemade dinner at home and a rented movie.
Sometimes low-key St. Valentine's Day celebrations are the most special. Listen to music, talk to one another about your dreams, and just enjoy each other’s company. Good conversation and company are free.

2. Small trinket items. Just because you can't afford a large or extravagant gift, it doesn't mean you can't buy your loved one some truly meaningful small gifts. Fill a gift basket with a variety of small trinkets and items that he or she will enjoy.

• For a lady, this might be stationery, stickers, lotions, jewelry, and other items on sale. Throw in some of her favorite candies or other trinkets as well, depending on what interests her.

• For a gentleman, this might be gizmos, gadgets, tools, and these amazing and tasy healthy jellies that will improve on his health, and so on. It won’t hurt to throw in some of his favorite treats as well!

3. Make something yourself. Draw your loved one a portrait, create your own greeting card, or make a list of everything you love about him or her. Write a poem and frame it simply. Take any ordinary thing and make it into something special by customizing it to suit you and your loved one.

• Homemade gifts help you save money, while also giving a truly meaningful gift to someone you care about.

4. Keep things simple. You should never overlook something as simple as cooking a meal at home. Pair your loved one's favorite meal with their favorite dessert and you have an inexpensive gift that is thoughtful, meaningful, and sure to be remembered for many years to come.

5. Make it romantic. St. Valentine's Day is all about love, so ramp up the romance! Inexpensive chocolates, strawberries, and champagne can set a loving mood for an evening of cherished memories.

Don't be afraid to create your own gift or do something inexpensive without sacrificing the fun and enjoyment.

St. Valentine's Day doesn't have to be an expensive holiday – just one to be enjoyed with your loved one!

A Busy Mother’s Guide to a More Mindful and Meaningful Life!

Motherhood can increase your motivation to live simply, and at the same time make it harder to cut back.

You want to be a good role model, but a growing family tends to accumulate more possessions and commit to more activities.

While minimalism is likely to help you save money, there are other benefits that may be even more important. You’ll have fewer distractions and more time and energy to devote to your family.

A Busy Mother’s Guide to a More Mindful and Meaningful Life!

You can enjoy the advantages of a simpler life whatever your circumstances and philosophy.

Maybe you’re simplifying voluntarily or under pressure from financial setbacks.

Maybe you define minimalism as growing your own food and making your own clothes or just spending less money at restaurants and shopping malls.

As you’re deciding what works for your family, consider these strategies that work for minimalist mothers.

Effective Strategies for Minimalist Mothers:

  1. Slow down. Calm your mind and clarify your thinking by resisting the urge to rush. You’ll feel more creative, and you’ll accomplish more with less effort.
  2. Appreciate boredom. Give your children the opportunity to become bored. Modern life makes it easy to go through the day being passively entertained. When they’re forced to rely on their own resources, your children will discover the power of their imagination and the benefits of unstructured play.
  3. Connect with nature. The beauty and peace of green spaces enhances our mental and physical health. Take your children for a walk through the park. Visit forests and oceans when you vacation.
  4. Avoid comparisons. Watching celebrity couples with full time nannies or reading Super Mom blogs can make anyone doubt their parenting skills. Set your own standards and work at being the best version of you.
  5. Network with other parents. Make friends with other parents in your neighborhood. You can exchange advice as well as outgrown clothing and toys.
  6. Manage stress. Show your children how to set aside time for reflection and relaxation. Try meditating briefly or taking a few deep breaths.

Specific Strategies for Minimalist Mothers:

  1. Eat as a family. Eating as a family leads to closer relationships and better nutrition. Join each other at the dinner table for a homemade meal at least once a week.
  2. Divide up chores. Learning to take responsibility prepares children for adulthood. Assign age-appropriate tasks to each family member instead of trying to do everything yourself.
  3. Run errands together. Use your time more efficiently by bringing your children with you to the grocery store. They can practice reading labels and doing arithmetic.
  4. Limit toys. It’s difficult to keep toys from multiplying, especially around birthdays and holidays. Create a system for keeping the total volume under control. You might want to try rotating toys by giving your child only a few to play with each week. Or, encourage regular toy donations to charities that help kids.
  5. Reduce clutter. Consider what other items you have around the house that you rarely use. You can clean your house faster when you get rid of clutter. Your surroundings will also feel more comfortable and look more attractive.
  6. Monitor technology. The internet can be used wisely for communication and education, but too much screen time can hinder your child’s development. Create house rules like no phones at the dinner table and turning off all devices at least two hours before bedtime.

However far you decide to go with minimizing your consumption, you’ll be teaching your children to value a more mindful and meaningful life.

Buying and owning less stuff will give you the freedom to enjoy what you already have.

11 Lessons the Elderly Can Teach Us

Elderly folks have a perspective that is hard to duplicate regardless of how much thought you put into it. They’ve lived a long time and have learned a thing or two that only experience can teach.

While jumping ahead to the end of a good book might spoil the story, getting a few tips from someone that has lived a full life is just smart thinking. It’s always good to get advice from an expert. The elderly are the experts on living life.

The elderly have a lot to teach about life, such as:

  1. Your level of mobility will change. You don’t have to spend a lot of time around older people to notice that their strength, endurance, mobility, and flexibility are compromised compared to when they were 20 years younger. It’s harder to get around when you’re 75 years old. ○ Doctors that work primarily with the elderly are particularly concerned with the mobility of their patients. They know that once a person’s mobility has diminished enough, their living situation changes dramatically.
  2. Your looks are on borrowed time. Age catches up to even the most attractive men and women to ever walk the planet. Enjoy your physical appearance while you can.
  3. Your health is highly valuable. Most relatively young people are healthy enough that they never give it a second thought. They’re much more concerned with money and success. There will come a time when you realize that your health is the most important thing you have.
  4. There are things you can do now that you won’t be able to do someday. There comes a point when it’s too late to take up bull riding, hang gliding, rock climbing, hiking across Europe, or going to medical school. There’s no time to waste.
  5. Work doesn’t matter as much as you think it does right now. While those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are often consumed by work, at some point you realize that there are other things you could’ve been focused on that might have been more fulfilling.
  6. Humility. Maybe you’re a billionaire that also does some modeling on the weekend, but there’s a good chance that someone making minimum wage will be changing your diaper someday.
  7. Prioritize. Time is limited. There’s only so much you can accomplish in a lifetime. We’re all guilty of wasting a lot of time. Have priorities and live by them.
  8. The pain of regret is worse than the fear of rejection or failure. After reaching a certain age, you realize that not doing certain things because of fear were your worst mistakes. The pain of regret is common and very real at the end of one’s life.
  9. Worrying is a waste of valuable time. The things you worried about when you were 10 or 20 years old seem foolish now. The things you worry about now will seem just as foolish when you’re 80.

10.You can find love at any age. There are a surprising number of people that were married for 30+ years, lost their spouse, and then found someone that brought them additional happiness and love in their later years.

11.There’s still time, but there’s not unlimited time. You still have time, but that time will pass quicker than you think. It’s time to get busy.

Life is short, so it’s best to get advice from someone with more experience than you have. Sometimes the truth is only revealed at the end of the journey.

Spend some time with some older folks and ask them for advice about life. Let them tell you about their regrets and successes. You can learn a lot from someone that’s already been around the block.

8 Easy Ways to Treat Your Body with Love and Reverence

Your body is a temple for your brain, mind, spirit, soul, or whatever word you prefer to use. Your body is the thing that allows you to exist, so it deserves your attention and respect.

Most of us treat our bodies like it’s a combination of an amusement park and a garbage dump. We have bad habits that destroy our health and ultimately our happiness.

Discover this 8 Easy Ways to Treat Your Body with Love and Reverence

There are a lot of people all over the world that are choosing not to give their body what it needs, craves, and deserves for peak performance.

Keep these tips in mind to keep your body in top condition:

1. See your doctor. Your doctor is an expert on health. They went to school for a long time to master their field. Many people avoid going to the doctor, but this is a mistake.

● There are plenty of serious problems that have no obvious symptoms, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and mild to moderate type-2 diabetes. You can’t detect these types of issues based on how you feel. However, your doctor can diagnose such things.

● See your doctor once a year or as recommended by your doctor.

2. Wear clothes that make you look good. A temple should be well cared for on the inside and the outside. Your clothes protect and honor your body. Give your body the respect it deserves and show others that you respect it.

3. Get a hairstyle that flatters your face. Your face is part of your body, too. Make the most of your face and your hair.

● When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you take better care of yourself.

4. Eat nutritiously. There’s nothing more important to your health than your diet. The food you eat becomes your body. Your cells and organs are made from the food you eat. Eat nutritious food if you want to have a healthy body.

5. Sleep enough. A simple rule is to go to bed eight hours before you have to get up. That gives you a little time to read, ponder the world, or do whatever else it is you do in bed before falling asleep.

● If you’re one of those people that needs 9 hours of sleep, ensure that you get 9 hours.

6. Be safe. Avoid taking unnecessary risks. You can’t live without your body, so take good care of it. Many people are injured, paralyzed, or killed by doing silly things that provide zero benefit.

7. Avoid excessive sun exposure. The sun feels good, and it is good, within reason. Avoid spending time in the sun in the middle of day during the summer.

8. Avoid getting sick. Stay away from others that are sick or might be sick. Why would you risk your most precious possession? Take care of yourself.

How do you view your body? Are you as healthy as you could be? What would be better about your life if you were healthier?

It only makes sense to give yourself a nice location to spend the rest of your life. Treat your body with love and reverence. It’s the only one you get.

Our Top 8 Little Known Family Friendly Board Games for Teenage and Adults!

Jenga Classic Game

The whole concept of Jenga is pretty straightforward: Build up a tower, and then each player takes a turn of removing a block until the whole thing topples. Its simplicity is exactly why lots of reviewers find it’s the perfect game for the whole family. “This game has suspense with no real danger, appeals to all ages, is simple to play, and lasts forever,” one says. For adults it’s just fun, but one reviewer points out there is an educational aspect in it for kids: “If you want to work on their fine motor skills, the action of trying to push out a brick is very helpful and builds their concentration skills too.”

Monopoly Ultimate Banking Board Game

Almost nobody would describe regular, old Monopoly as fast, but reviewers say this ultimate version goes by way faster, and rounds can take as little as 30 minutes. “If you are tired of the never-ending original Monopoly, this is it for you,” one reviewer says. “Games can end quickly, sometimes way too soon and it makes you want to replay right away.” The differences don’t just stop at the speed of the game. Instead of cash, this version uses an electronic banking system, and some of the rules are modified from regular Monopoly.

Betrayal at House on the Hill

This is a good spooky board game to play with a small group of friends on a stormy night,” says one five-star reviewer who describes the game as “incredibly immersive and detailed.” Over 200 five-star reviewers use the words “spooky,” “scary,” or “horror” to describe the game’s vibe, and lots of reviewers like that each time they play Betrayal at House on the Hill, it’s a little bit different.

Spontuneous - The Song Game

Of the more than 4,000 reviewers, over 200 used either the phrase “love music” or “music lovers” in their reviews. The rules are simple, and it provides lots of laughs and opportunity for interaction across generational lines.” Another couple, who call themselves “big music lovers,” as well as “folks who love to sing,” say they enjoyed both naming and “belting out songs” and “can’t wait to play again.” And a family whose youngest child is 12 years old writes, “It was a blast seeing what kind of music everyone likes to listen to and racing to the punch when everyone knew the same song!”

Codenames

social word game with a simple premise and challenging game play. Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their codenames. The teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first.

A reviewer with a family of nine that ranges in age from 8 to 60 writes, “We really like it! It’s a great game that can be played with a large variety of people.” Others note how its simplicity makes it appropriate for all ages. “It can be taught in under five minutes and provides a ton of fun,” one reviewer assures. “It has definitely been a hit in my gaming group and with my family over the holidays.”

Blokus Strategy Game

Abstract strategy games like Blokus are entirely based on the placement of their game pieces. That means there’s no luck or chance involved (unlike Battleship, above), so it’s nice for those who like to stay in control. “The beauty of Blokus is that the rules are incredibly simple so a young child can learn them quickly, in under two minutes, and yet the strategy and thinking levels needed to get increasingly better at this game are quite complex,” writes one parent. Another parent found it to be an “excellent game” for kids as young as 6, noting that there are “layers and layers of strategy,” and that it teaches “so many skills related to visual/spatial acuity, math, and strategy, all within a really enjoyable game.”

A Card Game for Families

Inspired by the very adult game Cards Against Humanity, this family-appropriate card game prompts players with fill-in-the-blank questions, and each person chooses a card from their hand that they think fits best with the question.

Warning: The answer cards are totally ridiculous, so be prepared for some wacky combinations.

Family Feud Trivia Box Card Game
